Experimental RIS localization paper accepted at UCMMT 2026
The paper “Experimental Validation of Localisation in RIS-Assisted mmWave Networks” was accepted at UCMMT 2026. It evaluates learning-based localization with measurements from a physical 28 GHz RIS-assisted setup, focusing on how models transfer from simulation to real radio hardware.

Paper results
- Used a 20 × 20 RIS at 28 GHz with four angularly steered, 1-bit phase profiles.
- KNN achieved 0.94° angle MAE and 5 cm range MAE on the simulation test set.
- Experimental validation achieved 0.5° angle error and 5.3–8.3 cm range error without retraining.
Research experience
This work gave me practical experience in connecting simulation-based research with measured wireless data, organising an experimental localization pipeline, and assessing model behaviour under real propagation and hardware conditions.
Next work
The next phase will broaden the measurement campaign across additional positions and hardware configurations and investigate methods that reduce the remaining simulation-to-measurement gap.
